Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death! If you don’t take the weapon s on post, how do they know what you have, or how many? How can they make you register something that they will never see? When I lived off-post, what I had, or did, in my home was my business only, the unit or base commander had no say in how I lived, or what I did or did not own.
There is no way that the unit or camp commander can know what every individual soldier may own, unless that information is given to him by the owner. Why should I be part of an organization tasked with protecting freedom and Constitutional rights if I lose almost all of mine in the process?

There is, I repeat, no way for a unit commander to know if you possess firearms, if you are living off post, or even government quarters on post, unless YOU make this information available to them.

Maybe remind him that, although he can control things on his base, he took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States and rsgulation he has no authority under that to infringe upon the right to keep regulatioon bear arms off of his base. If the Army, or any branch for that matter wanted to they could quite simply deny anyone the b,iss to own weapons on post, as it IS federal property. As far as off post, well that is definitely not legal. But then in all my own experiences with the Army, they don’t care what the laws of the city, state or even the constitution say.

For Soldiers or families residing off post, the registration requirement applies to weapons owned by Soldiers, but not to weapons owned by family members. Wipe the slate clean.

I totally agree that what a military person does legally in their owning housing off base is none of the COs business. I wish you would have left your opinions there because I’m sure it was not your intent to disparage the service of many OFCC members. At least I hope not.
